Jesus said, 'Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!'
(New Revised Standard Version)
During the last few months many people have found themselves re-evaluating what is important in their lives. It started, of all things, with loo rolls! Everyone desperately wanted them! Who would have thought this would be a sign of the changes that were to occur? From then on we have all been reminded in the most vivid way that our health is what matters, as well as food, finance, family, and friends - the great F's! For those of us who are Christians, the other big F is of course, Faith.
Have we rather put the last one on the back-burner, instead of making it a priority up until now? Perhaps, this has been a wake-up call for all of us - to remember to store up treasure in heaven!
Lord God,
You know our failings:
the times the things of this world
take us away from You;
the times we make excuses
not to worship You;
and the times we only turn to You
when we're in trouble.
Help us to amend our ways -
to store up treasure in heaven
and not on earth.
Amen.
