Psalm 19 Law World Christians God Jesus

Reading : Verses from Psalm 19

World

The heavens are telling the glory of God;
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours forth speech,
and night to night declares knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
their voice is not heard;
yet their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.

In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun,
which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy,
and like a strong man runs its course with joy.
Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them;
and nothing is hidden from its heat....

The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the decrees of the Lord are sure,
making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is clear,
enlightening the eyes....

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable to you,
O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

(Lectionary, New Revised Standard Version)

Thoughts

Three years ago today I sent out my first 'Thoughts for the Day', concerned that the congregation of St James' Church, Manorbier, would have no Christian input because we were "locked down" through covid-19. I had no idea that this would spread round the world, and I would still be sending them out. My thanks go to all who have kept in touch and let me know when a 'Thought' has touched you.

To celebrate:

  1. I would love to hear from all who read today's 'Thoughts' (whatever date you read it!).
  2. Secondly, ask someone else if they would like to receive these 'Thoughts'. (Tell me their name and email address and I will contact them!)

Today's message:

  1. Psalm 19 describes in beautiful picture language how God's world works in harmony with Him. The words can lift our soul, especially when we look around at the beauty of the natural world. Each of us has a duty to care for all that has been created.
  2. Psalm 19 reminds us that God's Law is perfect. As Christians, Jesus taught us to love God, and to love others as we would wish to be loved!

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
we thank You for Your glorious world,
for seas, sky, and earth;
for the beauty and complexity
of everything around us.
We thank You for the scriptures
and for all that we have learnt
about our faith.
We thank You for Your Son, our Lord,
who taught us to love You
and one another.
May we apply all that we have leant
to our life, and continue to worship You.
Amen.
