They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple they broke bread at homes and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
(New Revised Standard Version)
After Jesus' death and resurrection, some fifty days later, on the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples filling them with power. Almost immediately the way they lived began to change. The Greek word koinonia is translated as fellowship, which means they met together sharing all things.
In a pandemic, sharing is one of the things we've lost. We can no longer meet together in church, but we still have lots of things to share:
One day we will all share in the same worship back in our churches, God willing!
Heavenly Father,
You know our frustration and fear at this time,
and You know our desire to share worship together.
Keep us strong in the belief that we still have things to share,
and let our faith burn brightly,
so that we will come back together
stronger than ever,
ready to do your work in the world.
Amen.
