“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for,
the conviction of things not seen….
and without faith it is impossible to please God,
for whoever would approach Him must believe that
He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.”
Faith is a strange thing! As babies we have faith that we will be fed and loved (until proved otherwise); and as adults each of us has faith that the sun will come up every morning and that there will be daylight. We have faith in many things – things we cannot prove often. For instance we cannot really say we have seen the wind. We see evidence of it at work and we can feel it, but we don’t actually see the wind.
Faith in God is a bit like this. It feels right to believe in God, but we cannot prove His existence. The closer we come to Him – the more we speak to Him that feeling grows; and when we look back on our lives we can see where our prayers have been answered.
The whole of Chapter 11 of Hebrews is about men and women who have had faith in God. Now seems like a good time to have faith in God, and to get closer to Him.
Heavenly Father,
sometimes our faith is weak,
and we struggle to believe in You.
Strengthen our belief and give
us courage in the days and week ahead,
that we may grow closer to you.
