Entrance into the Temple. Of David. A Psalm.
The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it,
the world, and those who live in it;
for he has founded it on the seas,
and established it on the rivers.
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
and do not swear deceitfully.
They will receive blessing from the Lord,
and vindication from the God of their salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek him,
(Lectionary, New Revised Standard Version)
Have you ever done "Seek and Find" puzzles? No? These are jigsaw puzzles that have an extra twist. The image on the box is not the same as the actual puzzle, so the puzzle might be what those on the picture are looking at. Another kind have hidden items inside the puzzle box that are not shown in the picture on the front of the box. In these you have to build the puzzle and then find the hidden images within the puzzle.
Today, I just want to look at the notion of seeking God. Like our 'Seek and Find' puzzles we have to actually search for Him. David expected to find Yahweh (God) in the Temple, and many of us expect to find Him in a Church, whether that is a tin Chapel or an Abbey. But there is another answer to finding God. The First letter of John says this:
If we search for evidence of God we shall find Him in surprising places - amongst the poor; in bombed out cities; in the bedroom of a dying grandmother; and in the fighting of wild fires - wherever we find love for others in action!
Lord of love,
You have taught us that
You are present wherever there is love.
Help us to see evidence of You
in our world,
in those around us,
and in our life.
Amen.
