Thoughts for the Day

Tuesday, 21st April 2020: Seeing beauty in the world

God Thanks Psalm 8 Creation

Reading : Verses from Psalm 8

Bluebells

O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens...

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals that you care for them?....

O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

(New Revised Standard version)

Thoughts

Despite all the awfulness because of the Pandemic, it is hard to miss the world around us, although some of are lucky enough to see more of nature than others!

From my window I can see the sheer beauty of pale green leaves everywhere; the daffodils are gone, but the bluebells have appeared*; and the blackbirds and crows are gathering the largest of twigs to make their nests. The hedge is now under control and the remains of it ready for burning. Seeds are sprouting on the window-sill. The new potato bed is finished. The squirrels are busy, the cows have been turned out into pasture, the sun is shining, and Spring is here!

When we are sad or worried, it seems as though nature shouldn't be producing such a show, but we need to lift our eyes from the awfulness of the day and see the beauty that God has given us. Then we need to thank God!

Prayer

Father God,
We thank You for Spring
with all its promise of hope.
You give us so much beauty
at this time of the year,
help us to appreciate the
world around us,
and to feel renewed by
its vigour and beauty.
Amen
