Happy are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the Lord.....
With my whole heart I seek you;
do not let me stray from your commandments.
I treasure your word in my heart,
so that I may not sin against you....
I will meditate on your precepts,
and fix my eyes on your ways.
I will delight in your statues;
I will not forget your word.
(Church in Wales Lectionary, New Revised Standard Version)
Do you have aspirations? In other words, do you want want to be say, a teacher, or an ambulance technician, or learn more about your faith, or become a nurse, or a parent, or something else? Some of this will depend on whether you look forward or look backward, and whether you can turn your aspirations into reality.
It can be just the same with our faith. We may have an aspiration, as with the psalmist above who delights in God's laws, and says he will not forget them. But all too often we forget our aspirations and life gets in the way, so that we take our eyes off God and we forget His words.
A pandemic focusses our minds on many things, and one of these things should be to focus on what God wants. You might want to ask Him, and re-adjust your goals, if necessary.
Heavenly Father,
may we truly
want to seek You
with our whole heart;
may we treasure Your
words in our heart;
and may we delight
in Your laws.
Help us to keep our
promises to You.
Amen.
