Thoughts for the Day

God Romans Chapter 14 Judgement

Reading : Verses from Romans, Chapter 14

Why do you pass judgement on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgement seat of God. For it is written, 'As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God'.

So then, each of us will be accountable to God.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Thoughts

There's an old story about judging others: One afternoon on a train travelling north from London there were two men. The younger man looked out of the window and began to shout loudly: "Dad, look the trees are going behind us!" His father smiled at him, then noticed a young woman sitting nearby who was observing him with pity. The young man shouted again: "Dad, look the clouds are running with us!" The woman couldn't stop herself. "Why don't you take your son to a good doctor?" The father smiled. "I did, we've just come from the hospital. My son was born blind, and today is the first day that he can see!"

Alright it's a rather silly story, but the point is every person has a story and we shouldn't judge people. St Paul points out in his letter to the Romans that we have no right to judge others, when we stand under the judgement of God. One day, as Christians, we shall be judged by God, and our only hope will be the testimony of Jesus Christ as we stand alone before our Maker.

Prayer

Lord God,
we constantly make judgements
about other people,
even though we don't know them
or their whole story.
We know that You are the One who
judges humanity.
Help us always to
consider others with love,
for the sake of Your Son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
