Thoughts for the Day

Monday, 31st August 2020: Make a joyful noise to God

Praise God Joyful Psalm 98 Sing

Reading : Verses from Psalm 98

Praise

O sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvellous tings....

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody.

With the trumpets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it,
the world and those who live in it.
Let the floods clap their hands;
let the hills sing together for joy
at the presence of the Lord, for he is coming
to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
and the peoples with equity.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Thoughts

I don't know about you, but I am feeling put out by the news that singers can't sing in public for some time, because of Covid 19. For me worship and singing go hand in hand, and reading the words of hymns doesn't quite hit the spot in the way that singing does.

Our psalm today reminds us that our praise of God should involve music and song, so I invite you to join me in singing at home today, to praise God.

You can find all kinds of hymns on Youtube and many are free. They might ask you to "subscribe" - but that's up to you. You may get an advert pop up, but if you give it a second a "Skip Ads" box will pop up. Try copying the following into your browser:

Prayer

Lord God,
today we give you praise and thanks
for all your generosity to us:
for the beauty of the natural world;
for the gifts and talents that you give to us;
for the variety of animals, fish, and wildlife;
and for the way you nurture and care for us.
Keep us ever mindful of You
so that we may ever praise You.
Amen.
