Thoughts for the Day

Saturday, 24th October 2020: The Lord is my keeper

God Psalm 121

Reading : Verses from Psalm 121

Cross and Jesus

The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand,
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and for evermore.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Thoughts

Who or what do you belong to? Perhaps we are supporters of a football or other sports team, or an art or music group, or a book club, or we belong to a gym, a college or a union We belong to many things, some of which we passionately support. We proudly wear team colours and we show our allegiance in any way we can.

A small part of our unhappiness at the moment stems from not being able to meet others. We are used to being in groups and seeing friends and family, and we dislike living alone for long.

Psalm 121 says God is our keeper - our carer, our group leader - and we belong to Him. But the best bit is that he is our 'shade' at our 'right hand'. In battle, this side of the body for most people is vulnerable, so having protection where we are weak is wonderful. God also protects those who are left-handed, folks!

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
we come to You weak and afraid,
needing Your strength to survive.
Protect us and keep us safe,
in all the battles of this world,
spiritually, physically, and economically,
that we may continue to worship You.
Amen.
