Thoughts for the Day

Tuesday, 4th August 2020: God's steadfast love

Forgiveness God Psalm 36

Reading : Verses from Psalm 36

Cross of love

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your judgements are like the great deep;
you save humans and animals alike, O Lord.

How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
All people may take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

(New Revised Standard Version)

Thoughts

Can you stop for a moment, and really imagine the following scenarios:

  • You've come back home and you are totally and utterly exhausted;
  • No-one realises it, but you're in an awful lot of pain;
  • Suddenly you feel as though you've got the troubles of the world on your shoulders.

Right, well if these scenarios were real you'd obviously need some practical help, but what else do you need? Most of us need someone to put their arms round us and totally give their attention to our problems. For some people this is not a problem, but others may not want to share such personal concerns, and yet others will live on their own.

Psalm 36 reminds us that we are never alone, God knows us inside and out, and offers us total love and protection. Centuries later Jesus taught his disciples that God always has our good at heart, and that as His precious children no matter how many times we stray, He will forgive us when we return to Him and confess our sin.

Prayer

Father in heaven,
when we are in need of loving care
let us not forget that You are always there
to protect, nurture, and comfort us,
and that you have our complete good at heart,
whatever happens.
Amen.
