Exploring further how to be a true Christian

There are some obvious answers as to how to be a true Christian, for example, follow Jesus' Great Commandment to love God and your neighbour. We need to believe in God and we need to show this through the actions of our lives. So far, so good. But there are plenty of people who don't believe in God and who spend their time helping others. Why is this any different? As Christians we are often criticised for our lack of love for one another.

The word 'Christian' doesn't mean 'a good person'. It does mean that we try to be what God wants us to be, and more to the point it means that we have confessed our sin and through God's grace have been forgiven. God's Grace is the undeserved favour of God towards us. Look up some of these verses that speak of God's grace to us:

  1. Exodus Chapter 11, verses 11-17. (Moses finds favour with God)
  2. 1 Samuel Chapter 2, verse 26. (Samuel, a boy finds favour with God)
  3. John Chapter 1, verses 14-18 (Jesus is full of grace, and gives us grace)

So don't give us when you make mistakes, admit these to God and ask His forgiveness, and start again!
